The LEEA’s accredited training scheme provides those responsible for the safety and efficiency of overhead lifting operations with access to professionally designed and independently verified courses. They must undertake a comprehensive audit that covers criteria including the quality of the training facilities and instructors, and the effectiveness of student assessment.

Following the audit by LEEA technical officers, we are now able to offer a range of LEEA-accredited training courses for end users of Height Safety & Rescue equipment including:

• Level 1 – Basic Work at Height/Harness Awareness
• Level 2 – Work at Height for managers
• Level 3 – Inspection of equipment
• Rescue Training – Tower Crane, Roof Top, Racking

Don’t be fooled by the all-singing all-dancing bells and whistles, very often they add little or no technical advantage.

There are, of course, times when side ‘D’ rings, belts, abseil points and additional leg supports or padding are advantageous but for the basic working at height tasks a simple two-point product is normally sufficient.

Unless a harness is being used where there will never be a need to remotely rescue the user we would always recommend a two-point harness as a minimum. It adds very little cost but ensures, in the event of an emergency rescue where the rear ‘D’ ring is not accessible, the rescuer can safely connect to the casualty.

Health and Safety Events – Sandown Park – February 28-29

HART will be attending the Health and Safety Events Exhibition, South, giving demonstrations and discussions on its range of height safety training courses.

The event is free to attend and is aimed at anyone who is responsible for health and safety in the workplace. Held in conjunction with The British Safety Council with support from IIRSM, Safety Groups UK and other key stakeholders in the UK safety industry, Health and Safety Events is quickly becoming one of the most important dates in the height safety calendar.

Breakbulk Europe – Antwerp – May 22-24

The Checkmate Group returns to Breakbulk Europe 2012 to showcase its unrivalled range of lifting and flexible engineering solutions, and height safety equipment.

Breakbulk is regarded as one of the largest and most important events in Europe for companies involved in the shipping of heavy-lift, project and traditional breakbulk cargos. It gives shippers the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with new suppliers from around the world and exhibitors include the world’s major carriers, forwarders and ports that handle specialised heavy-lift project and breakbulk cargoes.

In addition, the event will feature a two-day conference with top speakers addressing industry issues.

Liftex 2012 – Coventry – November 29-30

Both HART and Checkmate will be attending LiftEx 2012, giving live and fully-interactive displays of height safety training courses and equipment and lifting equipment.

Arranged by LEEA (The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association), the event is important for everyone involved in working at heights and suppliers of lifting equipment as it puts you in front of industry peers and blue-chip customers.

Once again, Checkmate will be taking its mobile height safety demonstration vehicle, named Guinevere – a converted firetruck complete with drop down tower, dynamic load cells and video cameras to record every aspect of your training.

Check us out in the main hall; we will be at stand 49 throughout.

We are pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring The Construction Health & Safety Group’s Annual Dinner on March 1, 2012.

The event is being held at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel in London and it will be attended by senior representatives from major construction companies, as well as representatives from SHP, IOSH and HSE.

The job will require good leadership skills, excellent communication, and you must be able to multi-task and work under pressure to meet challenging deadlines.  Ability and prior knowledge of IPR (import/exports) advantageous. Experience of IRIS Exchequer desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
