The PED5 is used for confined space or work and rescue tasks. The device can work with a bosun’s chair, harness, rescue sling and attached to portable anchorages such as tripods, davits or a fixed structure.

The kernmantle rope runs through a top and bottom pulley and the user can either ascend or descend independent of any other person. Control is maintained by the ascender, who can be either right- or left-handed. In rescue, or as an assist, another person can help raise or lower the user with an ascender, independent of the person in the chair or harness.
