CFE Delivers Skirts for New Surface Effect Ship

Checkmate Flexible Engineering has delivered the first set of skirts of Umoe’shigh speed surface effect ship turbine service vessel.

Servicing wind turbines can account for up to 25% of the total costs of an offshore installation so rapid access in a wide range of sea conditions is important to maximise return on investment.

The new Umoe craft permits personnel transfer in bigger waves and saves time in transit.Umoe Wind AS, who will operate the craft for Dong Energy, is acquiring a second vessel in 2015.

Tom Roach, Managing Director of CFE, commented: “These are the first new SES air cushion craft to be designed for some years. SES are ideally suited to wind farm technician transport because the ride height can be varied when latching on to turbines for crew transfer. This has considerable advantages for safety and the most effective us of access time windows.”
