Checkmate collect third Queen’s Award

In July this year, Checkmate’s Managing Director Oliver Auston and Design Engineer Duncan Barrier were invited to a reception hosted by Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke Of York in recognition of the company’s latest award.

The accolade was this time awarded to Checkmate for its Xcalibre fall arrest block – a device that has been proven to save lives among employees who work at height. Speaking about Xcalibre, Auston said “We passionately believe that innovation is the key to business success, and Xcalibre embodies that, allowing us to sell across the UK and the world against cheaper, foreign-made alternatives. Quite simply, it’s the best at saving lives and preventing injury.”

Checkmate’s patented technology, including the SBM (Sealed Brake Module, inset above right) and injection moulded one-piece drum, were both inspired by the automotive industry, and use the very latest aerospace materials and automated manufacturing techniques. These unique features allow the device to function in more arduous environments, and reduces both the weight and the manufacturing costs.
