If you don’t train, you don’t make the team
On Saturday 16th April Checkmate and our HART training team (including our specialist Work at Height Response Team) carried out some live training exercises.
A team of eight technicians rehearsed various emergency procedures and techniques for the challenges that could be faced at the Emirates Air Line Cable Car, should a working at height intervention be required. Barry Philips and Luke Harrison, two of the team’s Silver Commanders, led the exercises and put their team through technically demanding drills.
Luke Harrison, a HART lead trainer and highly experienced rescue team member, commented, “If our ‘on call’ pager system is activated we must be ready, prepared and disciplined.
“The only way to do that” Luke continued, “is to train and practise as many of the scenarios that could occur as possible. It’s vital that, should a working at height intervention be required, we are calm, confident, technically competent and mentally ready.
“Days like today ensure out team is the very best it can be – in all respects.”
